Getting Real
After flipping through piles of books, dozens of Google searches, scores of emails, and hours on the phone, our plans are finally taking shape. The day after sharing Thanksgiving with Mike's family in Hartford, we are headed to Lima. From there, we'll be in the Peruvian Andes for 2 weeks, the Galapagos for a week, Ecuador's beaches for a week, the Amazon basin for a week, before heading down to Santiago, Chile. From Santiago, we'll work our way east to Mendoza and then to Buenos Aires. Mike will then return to the states for a week before we spend a week in Uruguay and then head down to the Lake District and Northern Patagonia, spending 3 weeks on the Chilean side and 1 in and around Bariloche, Argentina. From there, we hope to visit family in Cochabamba, Bolivia if the political situation allows.
We are now busy figuring out what to pack, what to leave home, and what we may need to pick up on the way. But most of all, we are counting down the days before the jet engines roar and the wheels lift off the pavement as we head South for the winter!!! While we may not be able to fully capture our experiences in words, we look forward to sharing stories here. We will try to structure it so that Darius and Micayla each provide regular updates, while Li and Mike supplement their tales with stories of our own. Come often to learn the latest.

Liana and Mike,
Nice work on the blog. The map works fine and really helps to "see" your trip. Looking forward to reading more about this adventure.
Dad
Li & Mike,
I didn't know about this big adventure! Thank you for including me, so we can follow your travels. I hope you're home for Wellesley Reunion in June!
Safe travels,
Marie
I am so excited to be able live vicariously through your eyes. You will be "bookmarked" on my MAC.
Buen Viaje,
Nela
Wow, what a blog. We are truly living your journey through this blog and amazed at how cool it all is.
We hope you're having the time of your lives.
Merry Christmas (in case we don't talk before then). Do they celebrate Christmas on 12/25 or 1/6 in S. America? It might be called King's Day and be celebrated 1/6.
Take care,
Lorreen
