Time to pack it in...or should we say stuff!

A couple of days ago, Liana woke and exclaimed, “I can’t believe this is the last Saturday before we leave!” Since then, we’ve been busy strategizing and implementing our packing system. Well, OK, it has been more Mike trying to convince Liana to follow his plan! Meanwhile, Liana’s friends have been raising eyebrows as they learn that we have managed to fit everything into just one checked bag! If our end product was a BMW, our accomplishment would be a prime example of precise German engineering!

So what is our packing secret? Compartmentalization! Everyone gets a main clothes bag that fits into the Master bag. In the Master bag, there is also a cold weather clothes bag, a smaller beach bag, a medicine bag, a toiletries bag, and an electronics bag. Each of us also has a carry-on day pack with emergency clothes, medicines, and toiletries, plus whatever other things we “can’t live without.” Since Darius and Micayla will be out of school for a while, one of the essentials are Kindles loaded with books. Then there are cameras, cards, dice, and a couple of hacky sacks. Cayla’s got Bunny. Darius has Rudolph. Mike has his computer. And Li...well let's say she is packing lots of patience.

We are looking forward to Thanksgiving with Mike’s family, a final day with Liana’s father, an exciting ride to the airport, and then “WEEEEE” are off! Welcome aboard for what we hope is a long, fun trip...but if you join us somewhere along the way, you'll have to pack your own bag because ours is full!!!

Li and Mike,
Oh man - I can't believe it's finally here! Great pictures (particularly the "stowed away" one) - And what a great site this is. You'll have to give me a tutorial when you get back. Looking forward to living vicariously. What a wonderful gift you are all giving each other. Be safe.
Peace,
Jan

Love the photos and the commentary! We've actually tried to compartmentalize our packing a couple of times for big trips but little space, and it worked great. The plastic bags themselves come in handy at times--for wet clothes at the beach, etc. I suppose each person could even have bags within their bag, for underwear, shirts, pants, etc. Uh oh...I think I'm getting too involved, and I'm not going anywhere.
I'm so glad you're blogging...
Have a GREAT time!
